Light, medium or strong support sports bras, everyday cotton bras, night or nursing bras: options without underwire that are chosen based on the level of support rather than just size.
A brassiere is a non-wired bra that provides support through the compression of the material and a wide back band, rather than a structured cup. This principle makes it comfortable to wear for long periods, which is also why it should be chosen primarily based on the level of support, not on the shape.
This is the only criterion that really matters, and it doesn't depend on bust size but on the activity. Light support is suitable for yoga, pilates, and walking: the sports bra mainly serves a comfort role here. Medium support covers cycling, weightlifting, and hiking. Strong support is essential for running and team sports, where the bust undergoes repeated vertical movements. An under-supported women's bra cannot be compensated for by tightening the straps.
Beyond cup size C, compression alone is no longer enough: a model with separate cups is needed, which encapsulates each breast rather than crushing them together. These bras resemble a classic bra more, with wide adjustable straps and often a hook closure at the back rather than a pull-over-the-head style. This is the segment where Anita has specialised, with ranges going up to deep cups.
Outside of sports, the women's bra has taken the place previously held by the classic bra. A cotton bra for women is then worn as an everyday undergarment, while the lace women's bra is made to be seen under an open shirt. The women's sports bra, on the other hand, is not chosen based on either of these two criteria but on the activity's impact level. Made from ribbed cotton, soft lace, or microfiber, it goes on over the head, doesn't leave marks, and is often worn visibly under a scoop-neck tank top. It's also the most useful transitional piece after pregnancy or surgery, when wiring feels uncomfortable. Note: on these soft models, sizes are often in S, M, L, which suits up to cup size C but rarely beyond.
