Plus-size tights from sheer to fleece, featuring an expanded waistband and a redesigned inseam length, selected based on a chart that cross-references size and weight.
A plus size tights is not just a standard stretched tights. Two elements are redesigned: the waist panel, which is widened and often reinforced, and the inseam length, which is extended so that the waistband doesn't slide down. Without these two adjustments, the tights will constantly slip and can quickly tear at the inseam.
For plus sizes, the tension gap between two neighbouring sizes is more pronounced than elsewhere, and a mistake of one size can be immediately noticeable. Two practical consequences. Read the manufacturer's chart rather than relying on the size of another brand, as the thresholds vary significantly between brands. And in case of doubt, always opt for the larger size: a plus size tights that is slightly loose will last much longer than tights that are worn at the limit of their elasticity.
Opaque models, starting from 40 or 50 denier, are more durable and comfortable than thin tights, whose fabric does not handle well under significant tension. Thin tights are still an option but require you to choose one size up and handle them with care; the plus size fancy tights with open patterns require the same caution. For winter, fleece tights or thermal tights are now available in a full range of plus sizes, which wasn't the case a few years ago.
