L cup bras and above: what really exists

Bras and beyond: the least serviced segment of the market, where sister sizes, international equivalents, and custom sizing become the only resources.

For a cup L bra, the difference between the bust and back measures 35 centimetres, and beyond that, the gap continues to increase by two centimetres for each letter. This is the least catered segment in the lingerie market, and the number of available options can be counted on one hand with most retailers.

Three resources when cup L is unavailable

First, sister sizes, which remain the most effective option: a 85L, a 90K, and a 95J all carry the same cup. Then, the international equivalents, with the British sizing going higher than the French and using double letters. Lastly, made-to-measure, still offered by a few corset makers, which remains the only comprehensive solution beyond a certain point but requires a different timeframe and budget.

What makes a cup L wearable

The technical requirements are the same as at the previous sizes, pushed to their limit: a four-piece cup, a long underwire that fully encircles the bust, a high back with three or four hooks, and wide, padded straps anchored at the centre. A cup L bra that does not meet these criteria will not hold, regardless of the brand. Before going further, check the cup K in a smaller band size: the sister size often suffices to expand the choices.
