Basket bras with rounded cups or full-coverage moulded cups, in lace, microfibre or cotton: the two styles that are most comfortable for everyday wear, including deep cups.

The full coverage bra covers the entire breast with a cup made from several pieces, with seams that distribute the weight across the surface. The bustier bra follows the same principle but has a slightly more revealing and rounded cup. These are the two styles that best support the bust throughout the day.

Why the full coverage bra provides better support than other styles

The difference lies in the contact surface. A moulded one-piece cup distributes the load evenly but without direction; a full coverage cup made from two or three pieces directs the support upwards and inwards due to its seams. The result: at the same size, the full coverage bra relieves more pressure on the straps and shoulders. This is also why it dominates the plus-size ranges, where the load to be supported is greater.

Bustier or full coverage bra: which to choose

The bustier bra is the compromise. Its rounded cups, lower than those of a full coverage bra, remain invisible under a t-shirt while providing genuine support: it's often the most versatile shape in a wardrobe. Between a balconette bra or bustier, the latter is the easiest to wear every day. In white or nude, a bustier bra disappears under a light-coloured shirt. There is also a push-up bustier bra, featuring a light padding placed under the bottom of the cup. The full coverage style takes the advantage once the cup exceeds D, or for long days spent on your feet. Under a fitted shirt, opt for the microfiber bustier, as its smooth surface doesn’t show any seams.

How to identify a well-fitted full coverage bra

Three checks are enough. The cup should neither gape at the upper edge, a sign of being too big, nor spill over the sides or above, which indicates the opposite. The bridge, the small piece connecting the two cups, should touch the skin all the way up; if it floats, the cup size is lacking. Finally, the band at the back should stay horizontal, never ride up towards the shoulder blades.
